URBAN REGENERATION

LONDON

As London grows by the day and developers move further away from central London to find areas and land perfect for redevelopment, regeneration across the capital is at an all-time high. While regeneration projects in central London are mostly small-scale, inner London and many areas that straddle inner and outer London are undergoing huge changes that weren’t visible at this scale 10 to 15 years ago.

The outer areas of London in the East, West, North and South are  experiencing mass regeneration

Regeneration in East London

King Street W6

The redevelopment of King Street will create a new civic and community heart for Hammersmith. The design is based on a series of high quality urban spaces - a square, a street, a footbridge and a park - which will create a new piece of the city that will deliver, through sustainable development, a well-connected public realm to generate long-term social, economic and environmental benefits.

Central to the development is a new public square framed by the listed Town Hall to the south, and new buildings to the east and west comprising cafés, restaurants, offices and residential blocks.

Sheppard Robson has led the detailed co-ordination of the expansion plans of Westfield London at Shepherd’s Bush, which opened in March 2018. This £600m project delivers 700,000 ft² of retail space, including a new flagship John Lewis store and is part of a wider development, which includes 1500 new homes.

The retail expansion increases the total number of retail units at Westfield London to 450, and also includes a new restaurant wing connecting the retail and the public realm. These ambitious plans have resulted in a complex scheme on a site that includes a network of London Underground lines and sidings, existing bus routes and bus station, and working around key roads and pedestrian routes.

Brent Council is working with the owners of the Unisys buildings to redevelop the Bridge Park site that has been part derelict for more than 15 years to improve the area for local people.

The exciting mixed development proposals include a brand new Community Hub with improved leisure facilities, community space, modern workspace and new homes.
